Embracing the beauty of South Asian heritage, one Paranda at a time.
Have you ever picked up your Ami’s or Nani’s paranda and styled your hair with it? Or have you only admired it from afar? Maybe you dismissed it as something old-fashioned—something only worn by your mother, aunts, or grandmother. Maybe, at some point, you even thought it was too paindu for you.

My first encounter with a paranda wasn’t in childhood, but in my young adulthood—when I pulled one out from the deep corners of my mother’s sandooq for an ethnic day at college. Ironically, the theme was desi wear—which, let’s be honest, was just a polite way of saying paindu.
How often, while growing up, did we turn away from parts of our own culture—scorning them in favor of Western wear, trying so hard to be cool, easy to digest, and acceptable to the masses? And in doing so, how much of ourselves did we shrink? How much space did we stop taking up?
But as I grow older and fall back in love with my South Asian heritage, I want to make it easier for you to do the same.
These parandas have been in the making for years. I’ve created samples, scrapped them, reworked them, and started over more times than I can count. And now, they’re finally here.
Wear them with a pishwas or pair them with jeans. Wrap one around your bun or tie it to your bag as a charm. The world is your oyster—with a desi twist.
And as I sit here writing this, my mother’s parandas are still with me, tucked away in my closet—just as they have been throughout my journey of rediscovering my heritage. Life has come full circle. The very thing I once saw as outdated has become a symbol of identity, belonging, and home.
